Scholarships For Kinesiology Majors

The study of kinesiology, is required to have a career in physical therapy, which has turned out to be one of the most rewarding and imminent professions. To multiply the number of well-trained physical therapists, who deal with traumatically injured patients, there are several physical therapy scholarships sponsored both by government and private organizations. Some of which include trusted non-profits, such as the American Physical Therapy Association, AMBUCS, and Wisconsin Physical Therapy Association.

American Physical Therapy Association

The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) offers both the Mary McMillan Scholarship Award and Conference Scholarships for aspiring physical therapy assistants and professionals. Their organization represents over 85,000 PT’s who work to help aid undergraduate students who share the same dream of helping people through physical rehabilitation. Both of the financial aid programs they offer are discussed below.

Mary McMillan Scholarship Award

One award in each category is offered to students who demonstrate academic brilliance and immense future potential. $3,000 is awarded to a physical therapist assistant and $5,000 to physical therapist professional. Interested applicants must serve the community through the APTA. Schools of physical therapy nominate the students who are enrolled in the final year of study and provide an enrollment verification form that has to be submitted during the online application procedure. Candidates must submit two recommendation letters to support their worthiness and talent. The process of application commences in the month of August.

Conference Scholarships For Physical Therapy Students

Three APTA member students who are interested in pursuing a career in one of the following fields are eligible for scholarships from various colleges that offer physical therapy as a major.

  • Orthopedics
  • Neurology
  • Geriatrics
  • Sports Physical Therapy

The recipients of the awards offered from colleges working with APTA are determined during the APTA combined sections meeting that is held every year in the month of January. Qualified applicants are required to be a second or third year student of therapy at the time of this annual conference. These are sponsored scholarships, which also provide travel, lodging, and meal expenses to eligible students who wish to attend the conference.


AMBUCS Scholarships for Graduate and Undergraduate Physical Therapy Students

Exceptional students enrolled in specific courses are awarded scholarships of $1,500 by the AMBUCS foundation. Additionally, one two year award of $6,000 is offered to students who demonstrates commitment to local community and academic brilliance. If you are a student pursuing a degree in fields such as the ones listed below, you could be eligible.

  • Physical Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Hearing Audiology

Assistant courses in colleges with physical therapy majors are not eligible for this award. These are financial need based awards, whose eligible amount is deposited to the student’s account every semester. The applications are accepted from February 1 to April 15, with final announcements being made in the month of June.


Wisconsin Physical Therapy Association

Professional Scholarships offered by WPTA provides funding to United States citizens who are currently enrolled in an accredited college or university. Each applicant must be a member of WPTA and should be in the final year of his study. The criteria for selection are as follows….

  • Academic Performance
  • Community Responsibilities
  • Letters of Recommendation.

The amount of scholarship varies each year depending on the availability of funds. The deadline for submitting completed application forms is March 4.


The Foundation For Physical Therapy

For academically brilliant students working in the field of physical therapy at a recognized institution, The Foundation For Physical Therapy offers five Doctoral Scholarships. These awards go from $7,500 up to $15,000, in which interested applicants are asked to submit a detailed plan of their future research to convince the selection committee for approval. Along with it, they should submit two letters of recommendation, one from a professor, and one from their mentor. Applicants must also demonstrate clear leadership potential and strength of character through a descriptive statement of purpose.
