Some of the programs found below are a good place to start for students majoring in this field that are in need of financial aid.
NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund
The National Rifle Association of America offers three scholarships. In order to be selected, you must participate in a writing contest that takes place every year for both junior and senior students in high school. There are three prizes given to the students with the best essays. First place is granted a scholarship of $1000, $600 for second place and 200$ for third place. The deadline for applying for the contest is December every year.
The Aya Rand Institute – Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest
The Aya Rand Institute also hosts an essay competition annually for high school seniors and undergraduate students. This contest rewards the winners scholarships of up to $10,000 for first prize. The entry deadline is mid-September, more information on the winners bracket and the scholarship amounts can be seen below.
- First Place: $10,000
- Second Place: $2,000
- Third Place: $1,000
- Finalists: $100
- Semifinalists: $50
The scholarships for second place and third place persons are offered to three individuals and five individuals respectively. The contest winners are announced in November of every year.
The South Carolina Correctional Association
The SCCA offers a scholarship award of 1000$ and to anyone who is a US resident and a member of SCCA, or the spouse of a member, or a student who is recommended by an SCCA professor. Another requirement is getting a vocational, undergraduate, graduate, technical degree at an accredited university or college.
The Recession Relief Scholarship
This special scholarship is offered four times every year to students who have debt, due to loans or credit cards. In order to be accepted you must write an essay in which to include the reasons for your debt and how a scholarship can be beneficial to your situation. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Award
The award amount offered for the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship varies from person to person. You can be eligible if you are one of the few individuals who demonstrated they can and want to continue their education in the criminal justice field.
The Regalf Charitable Foundation Florida
This foundation can give you full tuition and living expenses if you want to become a law enforcement officer after graduation. You can get money for the four years of undergraduate study. Scholars are selected annually.
Captain James J. Regan Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is given to those who are in high school as senior students, or who are involved in a program of law enforcement, or criminal justice. Only the ones who truly deserve an award will get it, because winners are selected according to academic records, extracurricular activities and leadership skills. 31st of March is the final day for applications.
Department of Homeland Security Undergraduate Scholarship
The Department of homeland Security provides a great opportunity for students who want a degree in homeland security. The amount offered is 1000$ every month for a period of nine months. If you participate in the ten week internship that they offer, you can receive another $5000 in addition towards your schooling. In each fall, new contests are announced.
The Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences
The Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, or ACJS for short offers annual scholarships to students who demonstrate excellence in leadership, integrity and performance in the field of criminal justice . Applications and nominations are received in the fall of each year.
