Recent stiffness in the world economy along with country-wise low gross domestic product has again shifted the attention of students and researchers to macro and micro-economic fundamentals. Business studies have time and again proved popular among students, both at graduate and under graduate level.

However, these courses are expensive because of the exploding demand for managers and entrepreneurs in the industry. Usually, it costs around $100,000 for a one year post-graduate program in business administration (MBA); exclusive of boarding and lodging expenses. Likewise, undergraduate courses cost around $150,000 for a three or four year program. It is unmanageable for a economically disadvantaged student. Though, there are countless scholarships for business majors that cover full or partial tuition fees. These awards are not only available for students but also for working professionals or entrepreneurs. Some of the scholarships for business students are listed below:

National Black MBA Association

The National Black MBA Association, established in 1970, has built partnerships with over 400 of the top business organizations in the U.S. and strives to increase economic and intellectual affluence amongst the black community. They offer two different scholarships for African Americans pursuing a career in any business related field, one for graduate students and one for undergraduates. An explanation of each can be found below.

Scholarships For Business Graduates

The NBMBAA offers any minority students who are a permanent resident of the United States,  a cash award of $15,000 to pursue a full time or part time master’s degree in management or business related subjects. These business scholarships are offered to students who demonstrate leadership potential, strong character, responsibility towards community, and academic brilliance. Applicants should submit one 750 words essay, two page resume, academic certificates, and photograph. This entire process is to be carried out through their online scholarship portal. They do not accept written requests.

Scholarships For Business Undergraduates

Students in search of undergraduate scholarships and grants and who wish to pursue a full time or part time four year business program in any of the AACSB accredited institute, can apply for a cash award of $5,000. Applicants must be willing to serve their community through the services offered by the association. This scholarship is not awarded to students who have a grade point average of less than 3.0. All the necessary documents such as essay, resume, transcripts, and letter of recommendation should be submitted online after securing admission in any school or university.


The Financial Women’s Association of San Francisco

If you are an ambitious business undergraduate or graduate student in need of scholarships or grants for women, you can benefit from financial aid offered by The Financial Women’s Association of San Francisco. Candidates for their program are offered scholarships of $5,000 and $10,000 respectively, to pursue a business related degree in San Francisco Bay Area. These awards are funded through sponsorships or individual donations. Applicants must be enrolled in a course before applying for a scholarship. They should also maintain a grade point average of 3.4 or above throughout the course duration. Fully completed application forms along with essential documents such as statement of purpose, resume, recommendations from employer & professor, and transcripts must be submitted before March 30.

Northwood University Scholarships

Aside from non-profit organizations and governments, financial aid programs can also be found at various colleges such as Northwood University. Business undergrads can apply for various scholarships at Northwood. Some that are offered to business majors are The Besty and Dick Devos Scholarship and Merit-based scholarship.

The Betsy and Dick Devos Scholarship for Entrepreneurs

Annual scholarships in the range of $5,000 to $10,000 are offered to full time BBA or MBA students enrolled at Northwood University. Interested candidates are required to present their entrepreneurial project in front of the selection panel after submitting the completed application form. Final decision is based upon the effectiveness and understanding of their respective entrepreneurship models. Students must upload a 300 to 500 word essay along with the application form at the university’s website before February 18.

Merit Scholarships At Northwood

These renewable scholarships are offered to fresh students based on their GPA or SAT score. There are four different levels of Scholarship such as Presidential ($11,000), Freedom ($10,000), Free Enterprise ($8,000), and Entrepreneur grant ($6,000). Selected students must score high during college level examinations to renew the tenure of this scholarship. Cumulative grade point average is the only basis for achieving this award.


The National Association for The Self-Employed

The National Association For The Self-Employed (NASE) is a young organization founded in 1981 that strives to provide support to people who work to make their own living through the entrepreneurial spirit and mindset. Today the NASE makes up over a 100,000 entrepreneurs and micro-businesses, and is the largest organization of its kind. NASE members are eligible to apply for a cash award of $4,000 to pay the tuition fees for a continuing business program or to help grow their business. Applicants must submit a valid resume and an impressive business plan to the selection committee. Students should also demonstrate the potential impact of the solicited program on their business need or growth.
